Since SONESON SCHOLARSHIPs are awarded to persons who have a financial need, the decision of the  SONESON SCHOLARSHIP Committee  is based in part on information about a family's financial situation. Please respond to the questions below, remembering that responses will be held in strict confidence.

IMPORTANT: Regarding the verification of financial need, applicants for the SONESON SCHOLARSHIP must mail a copy of your family's financial IRS tax form 1040 (pages 1 and 2) for the current year or the year prior to this application date. All family financial information will be held in strict confidence.

PLEASE NOTE: The SONESON SCHOLARSHIP Committee will only consider applicants if IRS income tax information is included in this application process.

If you are Post Secondary Education Options (PSEO) student (i.e. a student who is taking courses on a college campus for both high school and college credit) please list the college you have attended and the courses you will have taken by the time you graduate. Please ask your college records office to send us a transcript showing the college courses you have completed so far.

 
Each applicant is asked to request a letter of recommendation from two (2) faculty members at school (i.e., teacher, counselor or administrator). The "universal" form for all local scholarships is on the web site of the Duluth-Superior Area Community Foundation:

The teacher recommendation form is a confidential statement. The student is not privileged to this information; therefore, the student must provide the teacher/faculty with the recommendation form and a self-addressed stamped envelope. These envelopes should be submitted along with the scholarship application form by the January 15th deadline.

The SONESON SCHOLARSHIP COMMITTEE is the only local scholarship that interviews the applicants who have advanced to the final selection process. As a consequence, we are trying to get to know you better through the application process and not the hard facts. Therefore, please write a brief summary about: (limit to 1 page and attach to the completed application)
